Self-Publishing 101: Your Amazon Author Page

Many of you know I run a blog called Awesome Romance Novels. All too often as I write up the posts for the books I promote, I'm surprised to see that authors have not created an Author Page on Amazon. Why, oh, why do authors not take advantage of this wonderful marketing tool?

I won’t lecture you about the many reasons you should climb up onto this FREE soapbox that Amazon offers, but I will recommend that you do it. And I’ll even give you a quick how-to:

1.     Create an account at AuthorCentral.com. Here’s how.
2.     Once your account is created, claim your books.
3.     Upload a photo of yourself. Readers love to actually see you!
4.     Write an active bio which includes accolades, awards, and social media information.
5.     Use Author Central to update the product descriptions of your books.
6.     Check your Author Ranking. It’s a really cool feature.

For more information on Author Central and the importance of this platform, see Jackie Weger’s post on Novel Authors At Work. Also, check out what Amazon has to say about all that Author Central has to offer.

Now go do it. Do it now!

Do you have a Self-Publishing 101 tip to offer? Please share your knowledge in the comment section.

Ode to my #Mazda Miata

Oh, my Miata, I love you so
I must put you in park, but I want to drive mo’
Your gleaming liquid silver just melts my heart
Your sporty curves are a true work of art

My husband wants to drive, but I say, “NO!”
Oh, my Miata, I love you so
Your gorgeous leather feels good on my rump
With such smooth handling, I feel nary a bump

You can fly like the wind; you can stop on a dime
Behind the wheel, I have a grand time
I even dream about driving; I want to go, go, go
Oh, my Miata, I love you so

Understanding Goodreads for Authors With Julie Whitely, Goodreads Librarian

Understanding Goodreads for Authors

Goodreads has been a mystery to many authors who would like to make better use of the site without making etiquette mistakes. It was my good fortune to meet Goodreads librarian, Julie Whitely, who has come to our rescue. I collected a list of the biggest concerns to authors and Julie has graciously addressed them in this informative and helpful blog. She is sharing a lot good information and tips. I appreciate that Julie is, above all, a lover of books, as are all the participants on Goodreads.

Now, from Julie:

First of all, I would like to thank Cheryl for inviting me to be a guest on her blog.

As a reader, I never really gave much thought to Goodreads from the author's perspective. Well, I am thinking about it now that I have put my foot in it. I mentioned on Facebook a couple of weeks ago that authors and publishers were not using the site to their advantage. It seemed that authors were assuming their books were being added by little fairies. Of course that wasn’t the case, so many books are missing. I stop several times a day to add a book I want to put on my own Goodreads shelf. This had me thinking that someone somewhere was sleeping on the job, and that authors were missing out on valuable free exposure.

I got more responses than I could ever have imagined. I learned that most authors have shouldered the responsibility of promotion, but ma...

Southwest Chicken Crock-Pot #Recipe

A friend gave me a recipe for the crock-pot meal that she claimed is easy and delicious. I made it last week and she is right. Easy. And. Delicious. Now that the weather is cooling off a bit, I love to use my crock-pot. Try this recipe and let me know what you think.

Easy Southwest Chicken

4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
1 15 ounce can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 lb bag of frozen sweet corn
1 can petite diced fire-roasted tomatoes (do not drain)
1 jar salsa, choose your favorite heat level

Place chicken breasts in the bottom of the crock-pot and then layer on the other ingredients: beans, corn, tomatoes, salsa. For the salsa, I used a 17.6 ounce jar of Goya Pico de Gallo because that’s what I had in my pantry. Cook on high for 4 hours, or on low for 7 hours. When ready to serve, reach into the crock-pot with a pair of tongs and shred the chicken breasts.

Now, decide how you want to serve. Spoon this lusciousness over cooked rice, or wrap it in soft tortillas, or sprinkle on some shredded cheese and serve with crisp tortilla chips.

Serves 4 as a main course, 6-8 as an appetizer.

Easy and delicious! Enjoy!

SHE'S NOT YOU by @MimiBarbour #Christmas Book #TenBrides

Today, I invite Mimi Barbour, a friend and fellow author,
to chat about her book, SHE'S NOT YOU.

The months it took to write this book was a fun time for me. The song echoed in my head periodically to remind me of where the plot line needed to go. I’d even play the tune just to get in the mood.

Of course, writing about this holiday is always special. I enjoy trying to get the mood just right so that it comes through the pages for the readers to experience. You know - those festive touches that bring the season close and makes one feel, taste and smell Christmas.

When I write my characters, I have a vision in my head, and at first, for the hero, I saw Elvis himself. But then Jesse Parker emerged and became his own man. I’m glad, because he’s a sweetheart and a shadow to no one. Locked into an old, dead romance, this guy needed to wake up and let go of his memories. Then he wouldn’t miss the lovely woman right in front of him – my heroine Belle. In the song it said – And it’s just breakin’ my heart cause she’s not you. Maybe not, but what if she’s better?

Belle Foster soon became real to me also. As a mother myself, I felt her worries and fears for her little girl. She’s a woman who’s had so much to overcome, most of all a belief in her own worthiness. Sick and alone at any time of the year is difficult, but when you have a small child who relies on you, and the season is Christmas, then who wouldn’t yearn for that special person to share their world.

And Layla, the child, could be anyone’s daughter or granddaughter. Mischievous and cute as a button, she gets into your heart, digs a hole and won’t be shook loose.

Put these three people together in a love story and you have a delightful tale that will warm your heart and brighten the holiday season for any reader of romance. Add a wedding and it can’t get much better...

Actually, it
can get better. This is just one of ten books in the
Ten Christmas Brides
Collection available at:
