How To Disable Apps on #Facebook

This morning I watched an interview with Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg and learned that there was a huge breach of information back in 2015 in which the personal information of millions of Facebook users was handed over to third party app developers. Due to this mega-breach of personal information, I decided to check out which apps were connected to my Facebook account. OH, WOW! That’s all I can say. I found dozens of apps attached to my account… apps that I don’t even remember ever using. I deleted 90% of them. Here’s how you can do the same.

1. Log into your Facebook account and click on the small triangle icon located in the blue bar across the top (pictured below).

2. In the box that appears, choose “settings.”

3. On the settings page, look at the list on the left hand side. Find and click “Apps.”

4. Hover the cursor over each app to see: a) a small pencil icon with allows editing of settings and b) an “x” that, when clicked, will delete the app.

We have to do whatever we can to protect our personal information. Any time you use one of those fun apps—you know, the ones that entice you with “how old do you look?” or “what kind of friend are you?” or “can you pass this history quiz?” etc.—you are agreeing to give app developers access to your Facebook information. All of us need to periodically delete these apps. Stay safe on the internet!

How do you protect your information when you're on the internet? Let's share our knowledge so we'll all be safer. Thanks!

Organize Your Friends on Facebook

If you're anything like me, you have tons of friends on Facebook…sometimes too many to keep up with. I've found a way organize my family, friends, business colleagues, fans, etc, so that I never miss another post or picture. The Facebook feature is called "List" and you can use it to create custom lists that will show up on the left hand column of your home page.

1.     Go to the timeline of the Friend you want to add to a list.
2.     Click the Friends icon located in the lower right-hand corner of their cover photo.
3.     On the menu that appears, click Add to Another List.
4.     Then scroll and click + New List
5.     Create a name for the list by typing it into the box and hit enter.

I have a list called Family, one called Friends, another called Writers I Love, and so on. Once you have your friends organized on these lists, simply click the list (as I said before, your lists will be located on the left-hand column of your home page). All your friends/family/etc posts will be there for you to comment on.

Do I Need More Social Media?

"Talks too much in class."
"Socializes at inappropriate times."
"Does not pay attention."

Did your elementary school teacher use any of these phrases on your report card? Mine did. And now that I'm all grown up and don't have to worry about anyone judging how much I socialize, I have gone hog wild! I have two twitter accounts. I have a Facebook account, have created several pages, and am also involved in numerous (as in many) groups on the site. I use StumbleUpon...and Pinterest. I have a blog. And now I am discovering Reddit.

What is Reddit? According to Wikipedia, reddit.com is a site where people "have the option to submit links to content on the Internet or submit "self" posts that contain original, user-submitted text. Other users may then vote the posted links "up" or "down" with the most successful links gaining prominence by reaching the front page. In addition, users can comment on the posted links and reply to other commentators consequently forming an online community. Reddit users may create their own topical sections, known informally as subreddits and officially as communities, for which to submit their links and to comment, while appealing to a specific niche."

I don't really get Reddit yet. But I will. Oh, I will. I have no doubt.

Do I need more social media? Probably not. However, luckily Mrs. Barnes isn't standing over my shoulder any longer. ~snort~
